Overview
All emails coming from the Cogniss platform show a sender name in the recipient's inbox. The sender name is the display name the user sees.
You can set the sender name at two levels so notifications feel like they come from the right place:
Environment level - system emails, which are sent from your environment (such as email validation and password resets). Set by the environment owner, applied to system emails and used as the default for every app in the environment.
App level - app emails, which are sent from an app (such as behaviour and notification emails). Set by an app creator, applied to that app's emails.
How the two levels interact (precedence):
If nothing is set, emails use the default sender name (for example, Cogniss).
If an environment sender name is set, system emails (and any app that hasn't set its own) use those.
If an app-level sender name is set, that app's emails use it instead, overriding the environment value.
đ Note: The sender name is a display name only. Changing it does not change the address notifications are sent from (noreply@cogniss.com).
Environment-level email sender name
Note: This section is for environment owners and Platform admins.
The environment sender name applies to system emails such as email validation and password reset, and it acts as the default for every app in the environment. It is set with a default value during environment setup and can be changed at any time.
How to set the environment email sender name
Go to Admin > Email.
In the top section, find the Email sender name field. It shows the current default sender name.
Enter the sender name you want recipients to see. It must be between 2 and 35 characters, including spaces.
Save your changes. The new sender name applies to system emails and to any app that hasn't set its own.
đ Note: The Email sender name field is required and cannot be left blank at the environment level.
App-level email sender name
Note: This section is for app creators and app admins.
An app can override the environment sender name with its own, so emails from that app (such as behaviour and notification emails) show the app's name instead. If you leave the app-level field empty, the app's emails use the environment sender name.
How to set the app email sender name
In Creator, go to the Settings > Notifications tab.
Find the Email sender settings section and the App email sender name field.
Enter the sender name for this app's emails. It must be between 2 and 35 characters, including spaces.
Save your changes. Emails from this app now use the app sender name.
â ď¸ Important: The App email sender name field is optional. If you leave it empty, this app's emails use the environment sender name rather than a blank name. They will never send without a sender name.
