Overview

Media Library in Cogniss Creator is a centralised place to manage images, audio and video files used across your apps and environments. It’s accessible from any location where media can be added and allows you to upload and manage media without leaving your current workflow.

Use Media Library to

  • Upload media once and reuse it across screens

  • Share assets with other app admins

  • Improve accessibility with alt text

Navigating the Media Library

The Media Library is organised into three sections, based on ownership and visibility:

Asset Library (Environment Level)

Asset Library contains media uploaded and managed by the platform admin. Only users with platform-level roles can upload and manage these assets from the Admin menu. These assets are available to all apps within the environment.

This section is ideal for brand images, logos, shared illustrations, icons used across multiple apps or available for all the apps in the same environment.

App Files (App Level)

App Files store media that belongs to a specific app and is shared among all admins with access to that app. Any app admin can upload files here, and those files can be reused across multiple screens and sections within the app.

This section is ideal for app-specific graphics, illustrations, and media relevant only to a particular app or audience.

My Files (User Level)

My files are a personal storage area linked to your user account. Files stored here are private to you and accessible only by the file owner. These are available in any area or section inside an app and outside of apps.

Uploading Media

You can upload media directly from the Media Library by selecting Media. Uploading from the My Files section automatically saves the file for private use, while uploading from the App Files section shares it with other app admins.

Supported file types and size limits:

  • Size Limits:

    • JPG, JPEG, PNG: up to 1MB

Managing your Media Library

Each media file includes properties that help with organisation, search and accessibility.

File name

The name of the file as it appears in the Media Library. By default, it uses the original uploaded file name, but you can modify it as needed.

Media alt text

Alt text describes the image for assistive technologies, such as screen readers. This improves accessibility for users who cannot see the image. Best practice is to clearly describe the content of the image, including any text it contains.

Mark as decorative

If an image is purely decorative and does not convey meaning, you can mark it as decorative. When selected:

  • The image is ignored by assistive technologies

  • No alt text is required

Tags

Tags help you organise and quickly search for media within the Media Library. You can add multiple tags to make finding files easier.

File ID

Each file has a unique File ID, which can be referenced within CML when needed.

FAQ

If I delete a file from the Media Library, does it remove it from where it’s used?

No. Deleting a file from the Media Library does not remove it from screens or content where it is already in use.
